Product Description

With a cooling capacity of 8,000 BTUs, this window air conditioner helps maintain a comfortable living space during the hot and muggy summer months. The unit's simple-to-use electronic controls provide a digital time and temperature display, plus a convenient 24-hour on/off timer -- great for cooling the living room right before arriving home from work or for keeping the bedroom at a perfect sleeping temperature then turning off on its own in the morning.

Choose from three cool settings and three fan speeds. A full-function credit-card-size remote control comes included for changing the settings from across the room. The A/C unit also offers a dehumidification mode that removes excess moisture from the air, which helps prevent mold from growing on surfaces inside the home.

Other highlights include top-discharge airflow with four-way airflow direction, an EnviroClean coil, an EER of 9.8, a safety power cord, and ultra-quiet operation. A quick-snap curtain install kit comes included for convenient installation. The air conditioner measures approximately 18-1/2 by 15-1/2 by 12-2/5 inches.

Have been running it for a week. Here are my observations:

    1) This unit is loud. I mean it, it’s LOUD!!! Even when running at minimal speed, with “energy saving” mode on. Not sure how many decibels (db) it pumps out, but it’s pretty close to my vacuum cleaner. In a 200 sq.ft. room, you won’t be able to sleep or watch TV or conduct a conversation with this air conditioner on, granted!

    2) It doesn’t cool our room (280 sq.ft) well. They say it’s 8,000 BTU. Well, I would subjectively say it’s closer to 6,000 than 8,000. The outcoming air is just marginally cooler than the room air. Also, the internal temperature sensor is off by about 5 degrees. Right now it shows 68′F, perhaps to look good and show that the A/C is doing it’s job… However my wall room thermometer stands 72′F! Well, here in the U.S, we call this cheating. Big no-no.

Bottom line: we’re returning this one back, even though we got it cheap, with 30% off the price sticker. Well, now I know why… you get what you pay.

Do not buy from this maker. They do not work at all and to top it off the unit that was in the box was not what was described on the outside of the box. Based upon the outside of the box, my unit was supposed to have 4 funtions – it came out of the box with only 2. It was supposed to have 3 fan speeds and it came out of the box with only 2. It is a glorified fan – does not cool past 81 degrees. The company does not back their product and told me that they are packed in China and that Haier is not responsible for what happens in China. Go with another maker unless you are just wanting to have a headache.

Well, I bought this a/c for my daughters room which is on the top floor of a 2 story cape style house a few months ago. It gets sooooo hot and stuffy upstairs that I decided to purchase this a/c. I have to say this a/c works extremely well. My daughter loves it. This a/c replaced an extremely loud Fedders in her room which the Fedders was like having a tractor trailer motor running. This Haiers a/c on low is extremely quiet,– med. and high mode there is a humming sound but noise isn’t bad at all. She finally can sleep at night. This a/c is so efficient that it also cools down the hallway just outside her room. She even turns the temp up because it does get to chilly and cold for her. I am very happy with my purchase.

Unit was installed and worked perfectly. For 5 minutes. After that the lights on the unit died but the lights on the plug stayed on. Reset/Test buttons on the plug worked fine. Breakers were fine.

Customer service said to just return it.

Second one did the exact same thing.

Stay away from this and save yourself some frustration.q

I bought this AC this past week, to replace an underpowered (for the room I had it in) 5000 BTU unit. I knew from reviews I had read online that this AC was loud, and they aren’t kidding. For that loudness however, the cooling output once it’s been on for a good 5-10 minutes is obscene. I’m nearly shivering and I’m about 4′ away from the vent. Some folks will be turned off by how loud it is, but for the most part if you don’t care about noise and this fits your budget, it works fine. Not sure what folks are talking about with it being the wrong kind of AC in the box, but mine is perfectly matched and performs as expected. The thermostat on the AC unit itself is a little off, but then again when you’re pumping this much air out, I’d expect you to be a little biased. :)

Yes, I will have to turn it off to use the phone and it’ll probably be a little loud on those first few nights where I need it on, but when it comes down to it, I knew what I was getting into, so I have no room to whine. Read the reviews, and judge the AC based on your needs. If noise isn’t a factor for you here, then by all means, get this AC and save a few bucks.

On low it’s noisy, medium it’s a bit more like a vacuum, and on high, you’re probably too hot to care how loud it sounds. The fan functions are nice to have, and I do like how the unit itself will report the local temperature. I can compare it to my atomic wall clock / thermometer and set it accordingly.

When you have a budget, you have to buy what you can get.

Unless the coolest you will ever want the room is 61 degrees, do not buy this product. Its internal thermostat has a low setting of only 61, and that is not the kind of “cold” many seek when buying a unit. Sure, 61 beats 95 on a hot July day, but I think we all want the option of making a room truly cool, like while we sleep. Most nights one is better off with a window fan rather that this piece of expensive crap.

I own a small (400 sq ft) house and had visited local stores to purchase a unit that was efficient and cheap. I did a little research before this purchase and settled on this Haier unit.

It is a great little cooling machine, yes, it is a little noisy. But, it does a great job and I couldn’t be happier with it.

As other reviewers have mentioned, this unit is loud. That said, I use it in a 12×12 ft room, and sit about 5 feet from it, so I imagine it’s not so bad in a larger area. However, I’m shocked at the reviewer who said this doesn’t cool well. I keep mine on “dehumidify” (rather than cool) at the lowest fan setting and on a target temperature between 72-76, and it keeps the room cold in 85 degree humid weather, with leaky windows! I only got it this spring, and temperatures haven’t gone much above 85 yet, so I imagine I might turn the “cool” function on when the weather gets to be in the 90s, but I’m extremely happy with the performance. Especially in the muggy Northeast! I even leave my door open sometimes and it cools down the rest of the apartment. Plus, the remote control is great!

I have recently bought this AC and it seems to be working fine for me. My only concern is there is no water dripping after having it on for hours. Has anyone else had this issue? Is this normal for this unit? All my other air conditioners drip water outside after running.
