Frigidaire FAA055P7A Compact Small-Room Air Conditioner with Remote Control
Product Description
Designed for rooms up to 165 square feet, this energy-efficient compact air conditioner helps keep indoor air cool in the summer. Easy to operate, the unit provides a variable speed fan, eight-way air-direction control, and electronic controls with a full-function remote control for convenient programming. Choose from Cool, Energy Saver, and Fan modes. The air conditioner will automatically maintain the selected temperature ranging from 60 and 90 degrees F.
In Energy Saver mode, the compressor shuts off as needed and the fan continues to run intermittently; when the room heats up past the set temperature, the compressor turns back on and begins cooling again. Choose the "fan only" option for air circulation without cooling. The air conditioner also offers auto-cool and sleep settings, a 24-hour on/off timer, and ionizer/electrostatic air filtration for cleaner air that allergy suffers will be sure to appreciate.
Other highlights include tilt-out filter access, LVC Technology (Low Voltage Compensation) to ensure proper operation when voltage fluctuates below normal levels, and a user manual that details several ideas for saving money and energy. The unit features an EER of 11 and an Energy Star rating thanks in part to its 5200-BTU cooling capacity. Choosing Energy Star products can help save up to a third on energy bills, as well as on greenhouse gas emissions. All of which means cooler indoor air without excess costs or impact on the environment.
A pleated quick-mount window kit comes included for installation; the width of the open window should measure between 23 and 36 inches with a minimum height of 14 inches. The air conditioner weighs about 46 pounds, measures 14 (15-1/2 with the front) by 18-1/2 by 12-1/2 inches, and carries a full one-year warranty with a five-year limited warranty on the sealed system.

This is an excellent high-efficiency budget air conditioner for small to medium sized rooms. The fan speed is adjustable so that the unit can push cold air further into a room at higher speed.
I really like all the options available in the controls. You can have it run as long as you want, or you can set it to run on an internal timer or according to an internal thermostat.
The on/off button is easy to use and the whole control panel responds well to presses. I don’t feel ignored by this control panel.
In addition to setting the fan speed, you can set the thermostat from 60 up to 90, or you can set the unit to run the fan only, without cooling the air.
Also, there is an energy efficient mode which turns off the cooling system when the thermostat reads the right temperature, but the fan keeps running for 3 minutes, to continue moving air over the inactive but still-cold compressor. Then at 10 minute intervals the fan turns on for another 3 minutes and continues like that until the temperature goes high enough to activate the compressor again.
There is Clean Air button that turns on a little electric air purifier in the unit. A good bonus for allergy sufferers which I keep on all the time.
There is a sleep button that works with the thermostat settings. When the sleep button is pressed, the unit continues operating. 30 minutes later, the thermostat is set 2 degrees higher. 30 minutes after that again, it is set another 2 degrees higher, so it is more efficient while you sleep. The unit will then operate with the thermostat at that higher level for 7 hours, and then turn off sleep mode automatically, returning to the original thermostat setting, before the sleep button was pressed. I don’t know anyone who sleeps a full 8 hours, so the sleep mode can be deactivated with the press of the button.
The unit reminds you when to change the filter by turning on a light. The reusable filter can be rinsed clean, and the button under the filter light can be pushed to reset the timer, which runs for 250 hours of operation before lighting again.
There are two control features that I don’t like so well.
First, there is the mode selection button, which controls which of the three modes you are in: “Cool”, “Energy Saver”, and “Fan Only”. I would have preferred two buttons, to go up or down the list, instead of only down. It’s a minor pet peeve for me.
Second, I think the controls beep too loud when pressed, and I don’t think there is a way to adjust volume.
Another thing I dislike is how the timer can only be set in half-hour increments up to 10 hours, and then 1 hour increments up to 24 hours. I would have liked to select smaller time slices, like 10 minute intervals. That makes it a longer process to program the timer, but gives me more control. However, since I normally use the thermostat mode, this is not really an issue for me anyway.
Be careful about putting furniture directly in front of the plug. The plug itself looks good and the cord comes out the bottom, but the reset and test buttons are not placed deeply enough into the plug box, so they can be accidentally pushed. This may turn off your unit, and the instructions say not to use the test and reset buttons to control the operation of the unit.
The unit seems to generate an average amount of sound. It does not sound any louder or quieter than an average air conditioner.

THIS AIR CONDITIONER DOES EVERYTHING. IT IS ICE COLD, TELLS YOU WHEN TO CLEAN WASHABLE FILTER. HAS TEMPERTURE CONTROL. MOVEABLE VENTS, FAN CONTROL, AND REMOTE FOR ALL THIS. SO FAR IT HAS BEEN GREAT.

Our house is over 50 yrs old, no central a/c, and probably not the best wiring. We got this for a very small bedroom (89 sq ft), and chose it because of the high EER and low current draw. We did have to raise the unit up on wood in order to clear the storm window frame. However, there were no difficulties in installation. This a/c has a thermostat, variable fan speed, ionic air cleaner, timer, and energysaver feature. It has now been used for about a month – we got it right before the heat wave – and has been performing well. We keep it on “energysaver”, meaning that the unit comes on when the room temp is higher than the set thermostat. On the hottest days (100degF) it came on probably every 10 minutes. Because the room is so small, it cooled the room in 10 minutes as well. The air doesn’t become ice cold, but it does cool quite well. It also does a good job of dehumidifying the air. Whether or not the ionic cleaner works, I honestly cannot say. The variable fan speed allows you to keep it as quiet as you need (it’s not the quietest, nor the loudest compressor, but really I just want to be comfortable). Very satisfied with this, especially for the discounted price we paid and the incredibly fast and free shipping.

this air conditioner saved our butts when our larger unit broke we put this one in a room that was too large for the unit. it still cooled in a short time span and kept us cool during the last heat spell while our kenmore was on the ropes! I highly recomend this unit for small rooms. its easy to set up, easy to use and has all the features of more expensive models. its a tough little tyke. the only knock is its allitle noisy for the wife but if your a shift worker and used to white noise you will love it. if your on the fence, buy it you will be glad!

This AC was surprisingly easy to install and fit perfectly in the cut out of my security bars. It took a bit to center the unit and I had to use a power screwdriver for the top bar. All in all, a 20 minute endeavor for one person.
From the first few minutes, the AC cooled the room (12′x14′) down and kept it nice the whole night. Every desirable option is there – remote, thermostat, auto shut-off – and they work perfectly. I especially liked the thermostat option for nights, so it would keep the room cool without staying on all night.
It’s pretty quiet and I had no issues whatsoever with noise with the unit very close to my bed.
When removing the AC, I didn’t drain it properly (you need to leave it at least half a day) so the floor got soaked, but it wasn’t bad at all.
Highly Recommended!

Light weight, cools quickly a 12 x 14 room, quiet running, great price…you can’t go wrong with this A/C for cooling a small to mid size roon. I use it at night for cooling a bedroom with a generator when the power goes out.

So far, seems like a good buy. Runs with minimal noise, has a energy saver function and is compact. Cools the room quickly and quietly. The EER rating of 11.0 is a rare find for a unit this small, and the free shipping really makes it worth it.

I like this air conditioner for its energy efficiency, excellent cooling capability, easy to live with sound level, air cleaning option with easy to clean filter, and remote control. I need a cooler environment than others in the household and I set up an allergy/cooling room after we had some problems from an indoor flooding disaster and indoor pollution from central ac problems. I also often set the central ac at warmer temperatures and supercool this room when I’m the only one at home. The room is 130 sq ft with 7.5 feet floor to ceiling measurement and approximately 16 sq ft closet which has vented doors. One of the windows in the room has a southern exposure, and the other window is a western exposure off of a screened in porch. I am located in North Central Florida and have owned and operated this air conditioner for about two weeks now. This air conditioner cools and dehumidfies the room very quickly and works well in the energy saving mode with the ceiling fan working at the same time.
It’s been easy to sleep with this air conditioner’s fan on low and set on cooling mode. On low fan (without compressor going on/off), this air condtioner emits is a steady, white noise background type sound. If the compressor goes on, it doesn’t wake me up. Bed is approximately 1.5 feet away from the air conditioner. After it rains, there may be some other light duty noises too. The manual lists the following as normal sounds to be expected from this air conditioner: sound of rushing air, high pitched chatter, gurgle/hiss, pinging or swishing and possibly vibration depending on how and where it’s installed. I’d add that I’ve heard the compressor very briefly knock when stops. Sometimes I cool the room at a lower temperature before setting the fan on low for the night. I run it a lot in auto cooling mode, and I have no complaint about this air conditioner’s noise level. This is the first window ac that I’ve ever owned, so I can’t compare to other window ac’s. I’m not able to sleep with my air purifier on (Hepa, no quiet or silent mode), but I am able to sleep with this air conditioner on as described.

Here in Montana we don’t usually need A/C, but the last few summers have been really hot. Add to that the horribly air quality from forest fires, and this year I just had to buy one. I debated long and hard, and am very pleased with the one that I chose. The remote is handy, saving me steps that can really add up. It was simple to mount in the window, with the help of a strong young man. The filter has done a wonderful job of helping me with my asthma and allergies. Even now that the air looks and smells clean, I can still tell the difference with the filter on vs. off.

Didn’t buy it here, but this is a very good window AC. It cooled down our room in about 10 minutes (and the compressor doesn’t turn on for three minutes).
As for loudness, it’s no louder than another larger AC I had before. So I think it’s fine.
I know we’re not supposed to talk about prices here but pricing the unit 30% higher than the MSRP plus shipping is rediculous. If you SHOP around (hint hint, add a dot com to the all-caps word there) you can get it for MSRP + free shipping.
